Prayers
How to pray

Prayer is an essential part of a Christian’s life as it is the way by which we communicate with God and God communicates with us. There are many different ways to pray – using silence, words, music, art, movement. It can be done on your own or corporately as part of a church service or small group. If you would like to find out about different ways of praying, the Church of England gives some advice on its website

Some Prayers:

We hope that you find these prayers useful…….
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
Prayer of St. Richard of Chichester
Thanks be to you, my Lord Jesus Christ, For all the benefits you have won for me, For all the pains and insults you have borne for me. O most merciful Redeemer, Friend, and Brother, May I know you more clearly, Love you more dearly, And follow you more nearly: For ever and ever. St. Richard Chichester (1197-1253)
Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226)
A prayer for God’s presence
God be in my head And in my understanding; God be in my eyes And in my looking; God be in my mouth And in my speaking; God be in my heart And in my thinking; God be at my end And at my departing.
