More About St Gabriel’s

St Gabriel’s church was founded in 1912 as a daughter church to St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Ashton-under-Lyne. It was built in the residential area of Cockbrook at the eastern end of St Michael’s parish. In 2000, it became one of the four churches in the newly formed Team Parish of Ashton and in 2008, it became part of the Parish of the Good Shepherd, Ashton-under-Lyne. It was originally a “tin hut” but now is tiled and clad with brick. One of its main features is a painting of the nativity on the sanctuary wall behind the altar.

We welcome families who would like their children baptized and these take place on the 1st Sunday of each month (except in Lent and Advent). St Gabriel’s is not licensed for marriages, except in special cases, but any of the other churches in the parishes may be used for weddings.

St Gabriel’s is a flexible building and is available for use by community groups and it may also be booked for children’s parties.  As well as the worship space, there is also a smaller room which can be used for meetings. For details, contact the Vicar.
